15 Soul Nourishing Things To Do During Quarantine

I think we can all agree that 2020 is looking a tad bit different than we all expected to say the least! Our plans to explore the East Coast in our van are on pause until further notice due to the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). Much like the millions of people in the world impacted by the global pandemic, we have been self quarantined and canceled all travel plans.

But throughout these scary times, we’ve been fortunate enough to be staying safe, parking our van at my parents’ house and spending extra quality time with family.

Although we can’t wait to hit the road again when it’s safe, we are really enjoying this time in isolation. While we can not wait to press play on life again, we’re really enjoying the pause for so many reasons.

We are so thankful for the first responders and brave souls who are out there on the front line taking care of us, and making sure we have what we need to get through this time. We are so lucky and thankful to be in a safe location, quarantining with family.

These past several weeks ‘at home’ have been a time of reminiscing, a time of self-growth, and a time for self-care. Aside from staying as safe as you can during this time of quarantine, it’s important to nourish your soul and feed your soul. This is mandatory “you time” so you might as well use it for you.

There are so many things that you can be doing to fill your time while you’re staying home!

Here are 15 things that you can do quarantined or while staying home!

Water Color Doodle Drawings

One of my favorite ways to relax my mind and destress is to doodle. It is so mindless and satisfying, and There is something so magical and about watercolors.

Paint a beautiful watercolor background, doodle some shapes with a fine tip sharpie, and watch the magic happen!

Have you ever used cream-based watercolor paints? It was my first time using them, and I have to say it was pretty cool! My sister has a pretty amazing collection of art supplies!


The power of meditation is real. Just a few minutes of calming the mind and focusing on your breathing can do wonders for your entire body, mind, and soul. Meditation can help you:

  • Reduce stress
  • Improve focus
  • Sleep better

We have been using headspace, and we love it! It’s such a great app that makes meditation simple!

Train Your Dog

Training your dog is a great way to nourish your relationship with your furry friend. Since we’ve been staying at my parents’ house, we’ve been working on house training our pup Henna. This is something that is a bit more difficult to do when we’re in the van since we’re always on the go, and frequently changing our location.

Teaching Henna not to go into certain rooms at my parents’ house, and to somehow know the difference between dog toys and baby toys has been a bit of a struggle – however, we’re working on it. Our dogs main motivating factor is some new Wolfgang Man and Beast gear. She’s been asking for a new collar, and she just may get something new soon!

Start Your Blog

Now is literally the best time you could be starting your blog and writing content. I often hear that people don’t have the time to start a blog, during quarantine all you have is time (and lots of snacks). We all can agree that we have at least a little extra time to pursue our passion, we also can take these moments to think deeper about things.

There are so many reasons to start a blog and now is the perfect time to do it, especially while we try to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Especially if you’re spending this time in quarantine, alone. Blogging is a great way to connect with your audience and talk about things on a deeper level, and it’s super simple to get started! WordPress is a great place to get started writing your blog for a relatively low price.


Coloring Books

It’s time to break out those colored pencils and your favorite coloring book. Coloring is a great form of both mindful meditation and stress relief.

I’ve been going back and forth between two of my favorite coloring books, they’re super creative and fun.

Take A Bath

Taking a bath is one of my favorite acts of self-care. I mean, who doesn’t love a good soak? This is something that I dream about when I’m on the road, especially hot springs.

I can not wait to go explore more of nature’s bathtubs, there’s nothing like an outdoor bath! If we ever get a hotel anywhere, it MUST have a bathtub -preferably a jacuzzi, but a regular tub will do too!

I like to add a few drops of doTERRA essential oils to my bath, along with epsom salt. Oh, and a bath pillow makes ALL the difference – trust me its a serious bath game changer.

Oil Pull

This is something I’ve been trying to make a part of my daily self-care routine. Have you ever tried oil pulling? If not, I highly recommend giving it a try!

Oil pulling is a great way to take some extra care of your mouth. Did you know that swishing a spoonful of oil in your mouth for about 20 minutes can do your mouth such wonders?

Here are some benefits of oil pulling:

  • Whiten teeth
  • Fight against harmful bacteria
  • Helps reduce bad breath
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Improve gum health

You can use your preferred oil, but my favorite is coconut. I also like to add a few drops of dOterra peppermint oil to freshen the process. I’m not going to lie, it’s definitely awkward at first, but you’ll get used to it after a few times!

Dry Skin Brush

Dry skin brushing is one of my favorite parts of my daily routine, I look forward to doing this right before the shower! When you dry skin brush, you should use small firm strokes in a circular motion.

Start with the brush at your feet, and brush up towards your heart. When dry brushing your arms, start at your hands working upward toward your shoulders. For your stomach, move your brush in a clockwise motion.

Start Your Dreadlock Journey

I finally did it. I finally gave my baby locks some much-needed love and length, and I’m in love. I’ve been dreaming of having long beautiful locks since I started my dreadlock journey 7 months ago. And I decided during this time of quarantine that the time was finally right!

Since quarantining in New York, I can’t see my amazing loctician Jessie Matthews of Bhodi Locks at Mylk House back in Colorado. Because of this, I’ve decided to take the leap and attempt to do them myself.

    Read A Good Book

    Now is the perfect time to start a new book or to get some work done on your current read. I’ve had extra time to get caught up on my current book- Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis. If you haven’t already read this one, I highly recommend it.

    It’s a great motivation to stop making excuses and to start working on yourself. Perfect for this time, if you ask me! When I’m done with this one, I want to finish her other book Girl, Wash Your Face.

    Ride Your Bike

    We’re so glad that we couldn’t take our bikes with us when we moved from NY to CO! Because now, that is our favorite daily activity, when it’s nice out! And it’s especially good to get ourselves, and Henna some much-needed exercise!

    Always remember, safety first! We left our helmets with our other bikes in CO, and we just got our new helmets and we love them!

    Take A Course

    Now is the perfect time to learn something new and the internet is a sea of information. Learning a new skill can open the door for new opportunities and can keep you productive in your free time.

    Udemy is an awesome place to take courses- anywhere, any time! There are millions of online courses to choose from, no matter what you’re looking to learn.

    Upgrade Your Home

    We’re super excited to be working on our van again! We’re currently renovating Vanny to be totally livable during the quarantine, so we can go off-grid for a few weeks at a time. Since we can no longer rely on public places for things like to shower, work at coffee shops, and frequently get ice and water, we have a lot of exciting upgrades in the works.

    We are having so much fun designing the new layout of our van! Thanks to the help of my extremely talented dad, and all of his handy tools, Vanny is getting a sweet makeover!

    Gone are the days that we would have to worry about stopping for ice to keep our cooler cold and our food fresh. We finally ordered our Dometic Cooler, and already know how much of a game-changer this is going to be once we hit the road again.

    Gratitude Journal

    Through all of the uncertainty in the world, one thing is for certain. Being stuck at home means your safe at home, and that calls for a celebration. In the midst of all the chaos, it’s important to take some time out of every day and appreciate what you have in your life.

    Make a list of ten things you’re grateful for. I’m sure you will feel pretty good after you do! Do this every morning, and watch how your day will unfold! Hopefully it will be a little sweeter, and you’ll feel grateful during this quarantine.

    Stay busy – Focus on your mind, body & soul

    Although having free time during quarantine may sound like a blessing to most, others might feel stuck or lost during these times. I encourage you to try something new, do something you would’ve never had the time to do, and use your time for self care.
